Carolyn A. Vernier

Carolyn A. Vernier, age 71, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Oct. 3, 2026, following a multi-year battle with cancer. Carolyn fought with faith and love, never giving up!

Carolyn was born on Oct. 2, 1955, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Zenon and Arlene Choma. On Sept. 9, 1977, she married the love of her life, Joel Vernier. Together, they just celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary.

Carolyn grew up in St. Clair Shores and Sterling Heights, lived in Royal Oak, Lake Orion, Clarkston, then finally settled in Gladwin. Her career began as a secretary and computer programmer for Standard Federal Bank in Troy, MI; then, upon retirement, she worked for the local schools in Clarkston as a playground aide. After moving to Gladwin in 2002, she worked at the Arnold Center, where she worked with adults with special needs.

Carolyn loved her pets: dogs, horses, bunnies, and her special cat, named Angel. Carolyn often served as a pet sitter for friends and neighbors. Carolyn was a fantastic cook and loved making family meals.

Carolyn is survived by her only daughter, Christina (Jerry Stillon) Vernier; three cherished grandsons: Kelton, Jase, and Huxley – she showered them with the sparkling love that only a grandmother can give. She is also survived by her sisters: Diane Thrushman and Michelle (Michael) Larkins; and brother, Stephen (Debby) Choma.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She will be remembered by her laugh, smile, and the deep love she had for her family.

Honoring her wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held on Friday, Oct. 23, 2026, 11 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Gladwin. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Arrangements are in the care of Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home. www.hallkokotovichfuneralhome. com.
