Senior Project FRESH coupons available

GLADWIN Senior Project FRESH gives $25 in coupons to eligible applicants to spend on regional fruits,vegetables, herbs and honey at participating farmers markets and roadside stands. Gladwin County residents who are 60 years or older or 55 and older and a member of a federallyr ecognized Michigan tribe or urban tribal group with a household income level of 185 percent of poverty or less: Household of one – annual income < $27,861.

Free gun locks now available at MDHHS

LANSING The Michigan State Police (MSP) and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) are partnering together to offer free gun locks to the public at MDHHS county offices and some local health departments in an effort to protect children from unintentional firearm injuries. The cable-style gun locks were purchased using $500,000 in state funding appropriated in the FY24 MSP budget for the distribution of firearms safety equipment.

The potential danger of open burning yard debris

GLADWIN Open burning is when material, often times yard debris, is burned. Steve Schummer, Forest Fire Supervisor for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, shared that 80 percent of reported wildfires are due to humans and debris burning is the number one cause.

State agencies collaborate to help protect children from unintentional firearm injuries

LANSING The Michigan State Police (MSP) and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) announced today they are partnering together to protect children from unsecured firearms. Using $500,000 in state funding appropriated in the FY24 MSP budget, the MSP facilitated the purchase of 75,000 cable-style gun locks from Project ChildSafe that will be available for free at MDHHS county offices starting today and some local health departments while supplies last.
