GLADWIN Jim Volant, Vietnam veteran, was honored with a Threads of Tribute Quilt on Thursday, April 20 for his service during the Vietnam Era. The presentation of the quilt took place during a regular meeting of the Gladwin County American Legion Post 171.

GLADWIN There is an upcoming election set for this upcoming Tuesday, May 2 in which the Gladwin Community School District (GCS) is proposing a millage increase to develop a new Junior High School facility.

BEAVERTON The Beaverton Alumni Association will be meeting, Wednesday, May 3 at 3 p.m. The meeting will be held upstairs in the Cedar River Room at the Beaverton Activity Center, 106 Tonkin Street, Beaverton. We will be discussing and planning this year’s 2023 Alumni Reunion.

Gladwin Community Schools Board selects Frisbie as Superintendent

GLADWIN On Tuesday evening, April 11, the Gladwin Community Schools (GCS) Board of Education selected Mr. Charles “Chuck” Frisbie to be the next Superintendent of Schools pending successful negotiation of his contract. Mr. Frisbie is currently serving as Assistant Principal at Bangor High School.

GBCFD at Christ the King May 18

GLADWIN On Saturday, April 15, in the parking lot of Christ the King Lutheran Church, there was another Gladwin/Beaverton Community Food Distribution (GBCFD). Almost 21,000 pounds of food from the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan was passed out to 249 households and 649 household members.

Beaverton to celebrate Memorial Day May 29

BEAVERTON Plans are now in place for the 2023 Memorial Day commemoration on Monday, May 29. As usual, there will be a parade in Beaverton. Lineup will be at 1 p.m. at the municipal parking lot near the Community Center.
