Boys’ JV hoop Gladwin’s junior varsity boys’ basketball team ran its record to 9-2 Thursday night with a 51-34 victory at Harrison. Colton Pfenninger led the winners with 18 points. The freshmen team fell to the Hornets 43-25. Peyton Newman had 13.

Girls’ JV hoop

Gladwin’s junior varsity girls’ basketball team dropped a pair of games last week to fall to 5-5 on the season. The Flying G’s fell to host Remus Chippewa Hills 3327 on Wednesday. Mallory Crandall scored nine points and Mackenzie Price had six. Host Harrison beat the locals 32-26 Friday night.

LANSING The Michigan Department of Treasury announced that Monday, Jan. 29, will be the official start date of the 2024 tax season when the agency will begin processing individual income tax returns.

Gladwin, Beaverton open JPC wrestling season with wins

GLADWIN After a week’s delay due to the weather, the Jack Pine Conference dual meet season finally got underway last Wednesday. Gladwin played host to Beaverton, Meridian and Pinconning and both the Flying G’s and Beavers went 2-0 on the night.

Gladwin County 4-H Fish Fry Fundraiser

GLADWIN COUNTY The Gladwin County 4-H Knights of Columbus Fish Fry Fundraiser is Friday, February 9 from 4-7 p.m. at the Gladwin Knights of Columbus Hall. The profits from each dinner sold will go to the Gladwin County 4-H Leader’s Council and will benefit our senior scholarship fund.

Gladwin Winter Carnival slated

GLADWIN The Gladwin County Winter Carnival will be January 26 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus, 751 M-18, Gladwin. The event is free and will include activities such as family photos, face painting, haircuts, and more. For more information call Sarah McCurdy at 989-386-8644.

GLADWIN It has been confirmed that Congressmen John Moolenaar will be at the Legislative Breakfast held on Friday, February 9. As with all Legislative Breakfasts in the series, the event will take place at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 751 S. M-18 from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
