G’s Baseball goes 1-1 in tourney

FRANKENMUTH – Gladwin traveled to Frankenmuth High School for a varsity baseball tournament on Saturday April 18. They would play against the Reese Rockets in their first contest and it proved to be a good, high-scoring baseball game. With the score tied 6-6 after only inning number two, both teams knew they would be in for a good game. Gladwin kept up the pace and intensity through the later innings, making the score tied at 12-12 heading into the top of the seventh. The Rockets would put a run across in the top half and Gladwin couldn’t muster a run of their own, falling by a 13-12 nail biter.

Beaverton Alumni Association to meet

BEAVERTON – The Beaverton Alumni Association will meet on Wednesday, May 6, 2015, and Wednesday, May 20 at 3:45 p.m. in the Beaverton High School Media Center to plan and organize the 2014 Alumni Reunion. All members through 1932 to 1967 are invited to attend.

GLADWIN – The Gladwin Flying G’s girls soccer team battled the Houghton Lake Bobcats on Friday, April 24. The Flying G’s won 7-1 over their competitors.

Gladwin senior bowler rolls 300 game

GLADWIN – In the Hardly Able Senior League at Meadow Lanes, Dave White started off with a 300 game on April 24. He came back with a pair of 198 games for a 696 series. This was his seventh 300 game in the Gladwin-Beaverton Bowling Association.

Beaver Baseball wins Oscoda Tourney

OSCODA – Beaverton’s varsity baseball team traveled to Oscoda to compete in a tournament hosted by the Owls. Their first game would come against Lakeview, who they would fend off 6-4.

GHS Golf opens conference play

Beaverton hosts softball tourney

BEAVERTON – Beaverton hosted their own softball tournament on Saturday, April 18. It was their annual Beaverton tournament in which 12 teams came to compete in the tournament. Beaverton first faced off against Shepherd in the opener, and it was a perfect game for Jen Eaton. Eaton’s first perfect game came against the team that thwarted Beaverton in the postseason last year, Jen had 9 strikeouts in the game, and also had a lot of help from her defense as well. Beaverton would win the game 2-0 due to the strong offensive performances of Makayla Bassage, Jordan McCallister, and Kylie Keeley.

GLADWIN – Gladwin headed just 8 miles down the road to participate in Beaverton’s varsity softball tourney on Saturday, April 18. They took the field against the Cheboygan Chiefs in their first contest and fell by a score of 11-1. Lauren Mose had a valiant effort in the game, going 2-3 with 3 stolen bases as well. Macy Bittner scored Gladwin’s only run in the contest, on an RBI by Kailyn McLeod.
