Laura Mae Spangler

Laura Mae Spangler

Laura Mae Spangler, born October 1, 1925 in Lake Leelanau, went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ March 14, 2025. There was a lot of love and living between those years and only those who were honored to know and love her would understand the intrepid spirit of this woman, the Spangler family matriarch.

No matter what title Laura held, daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, or sister, she was a friend to all and accepted people as they were. Her life was a tapestry of devotion to her family, her community, and her faith, woven with threads of kindness and grace.

On August 28, 1942, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, Laura married the love of her life, Norman Spangler. Together, they embarked on a journey filled with joy, laughter, and an ever-expanding circle of family and friends. Their love story stood the test of time.

Laura’s legacy is carried on by her adoring family, her daughter, Maxine Priemer; and sons: Steven (Debra) Spangler and Calvin (Audrey) Spangler; her 19 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, and 27 greatgreat- grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Louise (Bussy) Denoyer; her husband, Norman Spanger; her siblings, Art Denoyer, Josephine DuFec, Edmond Denoyer, Helen Denoyer, Delinda Gerber, Mary May, and Robert Denoyer; her daughters: Kathlene Spangler and, Ilene Dixon; sons-in-law: Daniel Dixon and Carl Priemer; and her grandson, Robert Dixon.

There were many defining moments in Laura’s life. While living on Ford farms, Henry Ford himself made sure she got the care she needed for her heart condition. She went on to work for NASA to help build parts for the first spaceship.

After having children, Laura was instrumental in getting Special Education into the school systems in Michigan. But most of all, family gatherings were the highlight of her life. Laura’s thoughtful nature and ability to make everyone feel cherished will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home Gladwin Chapel, Gladwin, MI, officiated by Pastor Martin Hodge. The family greeted family and friends on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, from 4-8 p.m. and on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home Gladwin Chapel, Gladwin, MI.
