One of the largest birds in North America touched down in Gladwin County last week when an American White Pelican spent a few days cruising around Wiggins Lake. I became aware of this unusual sighting via a Facebook group called “Birdwatchers of Michigan” when someone on the lake spotted the large white bird and posted photos on the social media site.
