LANSINGAn angler from Lowell, Michigan, caught a new state-record fish: a gizzard shad that weighed 4.45 pounds and measured 20.3 inches long! Sedrick Neinhuis was spincasting on the Grand River in Kent County on the afternoon of Wednesday, April 22, when he brought in the record-breaker.

STANDISHThe Gladwin Junior High boys’ track team ran away and hid from the competition at a Jack Pine Conference Middle School Meet last Tuesday at Standish.The Flying G’s topped the field of four teams with 154.5 points. Standish was second with 37.

STANDISHThe Gladwin Junior High girls’ track team won the Jack Pine Conference Meet title last Tuesday at Standish, finishing first with 94 points. Harrison was second with 71.5, followed by Standish with 60.5 and Beaverton with 14.
Gladwin’s Ben Verellen ran second in the 800 and third in the 1600 at the Jack Pine Conference Championship Meet Saturday at Shepherd.

SHEPHERDApair of gold medalists helped the Gladwin boys’ track team place fourth Saturday at the Jack Pine Conference Championship Meet at Shepherd.The host Blue Jays won the team title with 174.5 points, followed by Clare with 146, Meridian with 94.5 and the Flying G’s with 58.5.

LANSINGThe Michigan Department of Natural Resources has announced a required five-year Consumer Price Index adjustment for snowmobile trail permit fees. Starting this year, the fee will increase from $52 to $65 and will remain in place for the next five-year period.
