Beaverton lost one of its legends last Tuesday when football coach Dick Van Wieren passed away at the age of 87.
“Coach Van,” who is immortalized by a sign on the scoreboard at Metzger Field, coached for 24 years before retiring in 1985.
He posted a record of 10596-2 that included a storied 23-2-1 run from 1968-70 that began with an undefeated season.
