Terence “Terry” Lee Farrell
Terence “Terry” Lee Farrell, age 90, of Columbia, Maryland, passed away on Sept. 30, 2026, surrounded by family.
Born in Clare, Michigan to John “Ed” E. and Phyllis E. (Schaaf) Farrell, Terry graduated from Michigan Technology University in 1958 before serving honorably in the U.S. Air Force as a communications officer while stationed in Japan and Illinois. Terry joined Westinghouse in 1961 as a technical training engineer and spent his career in Field Engineering & Training Services through its merger with Northrup Grumman. He retired in 1998 as the senior executive for Oceanic Systems in Annapolis, MD.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Janet (Larmer); his children: John, Kathie (Paul May), Theresa (Leland Tankersley), Mary (Sean Eubanks), and Julie (Skip Herold); his nine grandchildren: Bryan (Carmen), Joshua, Cait (Trevor), Jack, Maggie, Michael, Andy, Kevin, and Miranda; his two greatgrandchildren, Aurora Joy “AJ” and Jasper Finn; and his brothers: Tim (Patricia) and Brian (Rosemarie); sister-in laws: Nancy (Rozmarin), Kay (Rooney) Larmer, and Ivy (Sirota); cousins: Barbara Connelly and Hugh Warner; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers: Bill and Tom; his in-laws: Walt and Thelma (Watson) Larmer, and his brother-inlaw, Jack Larmer.
In his retirement, Terry and Janet were avid skiers and taught at White Tail Ski Resort until turning 80. Terry skied until he was 88. He ranked his years in how many ski days he got in traveling to locations all over the world. When snow was lacking, they enjoyed golf, cruises, hiking, and other organized trips, visiting nearly every continent. He kept beautiful gardens at their homes in Bowie and Columbia, MD. He and Janet stayed active in St Johns the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church as lectors, eucharistic ministers, and by visiting those that could not attend in person.
To quote Terry, “I just want everyone to know how much I loved them, even if I didn’t express it.”
Family will receive friends at Harry H. Witzke’s Family Funeral Home on Thursday, Oct. 15 from 6-8 p.m. and at St. John Catholic Church at the Wilde Lake Interfaith Center on Friday, Oct. 16 from 11 a.m. until the Funeral Mass begins at 12 p.m. Interment, Crownsville Veterans Cemetery on Tuesday, Oct. 20 at 11:30 a.m.
