In the early 1950s, an active group of local sportsmen created the Sportsman’s club adjacent to the road to Pratt Lake. Funds for the construction were raised by subscriptions, and other fund-raisers, such as the “Buy a Log” promotion. It later became a bit of a political football, and was eventually deeded to the county for use as a recreation area – a role in which it continues to this day.
