Charlotte Katherine Wixom

Charlotte “Teddy” Wixom passed away in Fort Myers, FL on January 14, 2023, just five days after celebrating her 94th birthday. She was born in Walled Lake, Michigan, the third of four children of parents Warren and Charlotte Wixom. After her high school graduation in Ferndale. MI, she enrolled at Michigan State College, where she was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority and majored in Physical Education.

Her first teaching position was as a physical education instructor at the high school in Alpena, MI, after which she obtained a Master’s Degree and was hired at Eastern Michigan University, teaching students majoring in physical education, in addition to other classes. Her most popular courses were beginning and intermediate fencing. She was very proud of her involvement with EMU’s fencing club, which participated regularly in nationwide invitational tournaments. Teddy was an excellent swimmer, teaching swimming and life-guarding skills, along with coaching synchronized swimming.

As an active member of the American Red Cross, she served as a life-guard, recognized by the Red Cross for her extraordinary personal action for saving a human life. After retirement, she became licensed to sell real estate.

Teddy was a great fan of the Detroit Tigers, her favorite Michigan State Spartans, and devoted to her beloved pets.

At Eastern Michigan University, Teddy met her  life partner of 40 years, Marjorie “Marge” Chamberlain. They enjoyed homes in Ypsilanti, MI, and their retirement home on the Tittabawassee River in Gladwin, Michigan. As members of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Secord Lake Eagle’s Club, they supported many service projects and enjoyed playing billiards.

They also purchased a winter retreat in North Fort Myers, FL, before moving into a retirement home in Fort Myers.

Teddy is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Richard Wixom; sister, Nancy Brault; and partner, Marjorie Chamberlain. She will be greatly missed by her sister, Sue Coates, and several nieces and nephews; along with many life-long friends. The family is grateful for the loyal companionship extended by Cookie and Chuck Feiner over the past several years.

A graveside service for Teddy and Marge is planned for Saturday, April 22 at 11 a.m. at Highland Cemetery in Gladwin.
