Florence May Harris

Florence May Harris of Gladwin, MI went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 24, 2022, at the age of 95. She was born on July 26, 1927 to Russell and Leona (Spencer) Hayes. She married Lloyd (Dusty) Harris in November 1947. He preceded her in death in 1988.

Florence was first and foremost, a woman of God. She was devoted to her family and friends. She attended Bray Rd. Baptist Church and later attended Emmanuel Baptist Church in Gladwin. She waitressed at Addie’s Coffee Shop in Flint, while raising her five children. Later she worked for GISD, as a Paraprofessional Educator, helping the physically and mentally disabled. She had a heart for helping all children.

She volunteered with the Historical Society and several events within her church. Her passions were quilting, crocheting and embroidery work. She made sure that everyone she knew had something she handmade, right up until her last days. Her compliments were plentiful and made everyone feel special.

She is survived by her children, Diana (Max) Lemcool, Steven Harris, Leana Doyle (Jerry) and JoAnna (Rickie) Young; grandchildren, Tracy (Roy) Vick, Mathew Lemcool, Tina (Eric) Tosto, Shawn (Tracy) Harris, Stacie (Travis) Belill, Ben (Chanda) Harris, Janelle Harris, Richie (Emily) Beattie, Jamie (Jennifer) Beattie, Dustin (Molly) Hemingway, Jacob (Kaylle) Hemingway, Amy (Lance) Tenwalde, Tarina (Dan) Gillard and Erick Young; 21 great-grandchildren, and six greatgreat- grandchildren; her sister, Hazel Cooper; along with many adored nieces and nephews.

Florence was preceded in death by her daughterin- law, Joanne Harris; son, William “Tom” Harris and his wife, Debra; son-in-law, Alan Doyle; grandchildren, Lisa Harris and Jeramie Young; brothers, Harry, R.D., Roland, Bruce; sister, Carol; and several loved extended family members.
