The 79th annual homemade Sausage/Sauerkraut Supper sponsored by Our Savior Lutheran Church will be held as usual on the evening before opening day for rifle hunters, Monday, November 14 from 4-7 p.m. Last year, the supper was held on Nov. 13 only to avoid being held on a Sunday.
Due to a limited staff, the event will be a take-out only, drive-thru event. The volunteers will only be serving adult meals for a $15 donation each.
Meals will include sausage, sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, gravy, baked beans, applesauce and homemade pie. Please have proper change when ordering multiple suppers.
The event will be using both the east and west parking lots as drive-thru areas to service the guests faster. Traffic will flow into the parking lot from Clendening Road, then guests will pay and order suppers at a pay booth and then proceed to the double doors of Joshua Hall to pick up their suppers, then finally, exit back onto Clendening Road. Traffic attendants will be present and assisting with the traffic flow.
Typically, the event serves 1,4001,500 meals each year. This supper event started in 1944 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and has continued annually ever since. This year marks the 79th Sausage/Sauerkraut Supper event.
Initially, the meat came from the butchering of a one young pig and has grown to the purchasing of 1,200 pounds of pork.
The sausage consists of pork, natural casings and seasonings of sage, sea salt, black pepper, and commercial pork sausage seasoning. The rest of the supper items: sauerkraut, potatoes, gravy, beans, applesauce, and pies are all homemade.
This year, the staff has prepared with 1,200 pounds of pork sausage, 110 gallons of sauerkraut, 600 pounds of potatoes, 110 gallons of beans, and 41 gallons of applesauce.
