John Czape

John Czape, a loving father, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully on April 24 in Gladwin, Michigan, at the age of 94.

Born on December 7, 1930, in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, John lived a life marked by service, devotion, and family. John honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. After his military service, he embarked on a long and fulfilling career with Consumers Power.

On March 7, 1954, John married the love of his life, Peggy Dewey. Together they built a beautiful family and shared 44 wonderful years until Peggy’s passing on March 7, 1998.

John is survived by his four children: Debbie Sloan (Patrick) of Middlebury, IN, Sandy Welser (Fred) of Portage, MI, Steve Czape (Mary Sue) of Gladwin, MI and Beth Winkler (Chris) of Marshall, MI. He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews who will forever cherish their memories of him. His sister, Jane Sartor-Key of Clare, also survives him.

He was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Rose Sapp; and his brothers: Mike, Harry, Paul, Bill, and Fred.

Family and friends were invited to pay their respects and celebrate the life of a remarkable man. Visitation was on Sunday, April 27 from 2-6 p.m. at Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home, 440 East Cedar Avenue, Gladwin, MI.

Funeral service were held Monday, April 28 at 11 a.m.

John’s memory will live on in the stories shared by his family and friends, reminding us all of the power of a well-lived life.
