Flying G’s skate to three wins in four days

GLADWIN Two periods was all it took for the Gladwin hockey team to finish last week’s busy schedule with three victories. The Flying G’s beat the visiting Mid-Michigan Raptors 9-1 Saturday in a contest that was ended one period early due to the mercy rule.

BEAVERTON Abuzzer-beater at the end of the first half proved to be a Beaverbeater Thursday night as the Beaverton boys’ basketball team fell to visiting Pinconning 47-35.

Gladwin’s Corlew wins JPC singles tourney

STANDISH Gladwin’s Juliona Corlew was the leader of the lanes Saturday at the Jack Pine Conference girls’ singles tournament, which was held at Main Street Lanes in Standish. Corlew bowled a four-game total of 650, which included a 192 in her first game, easily the highest score of the day.

2024 Black Lake sturgeon season canceled

LANSING The largest sturgeon caught on the day by Matt Barber is shown on the ice of Black Lake. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is announcing the cancellation of the 2024 Black Lake sturgeon season, which was scheduled to start Saturday, Feb. 3.

American Legion Baseball fundraiser Feb. 3

GLADWIN COUNTY Gladwin’s girls’ and boys’ basketball teams will each host Coaches Vs. Cancer games next week with a goal of raising $4,000 for the American Cancer Society. The girls’ team will take on Standish on Tuesday night, while the boys’ event will be against Farwell on Thursday.

GLADWIN COUNTY The Gladwin junior varsity boys’ basketball team fell to 10-3 Thursday night after a tough 41-39 loss at Shepherd. Colton Pfenninger scored 18 points for the Flying G’s. Pfenninger had 21 points on Jan. 22 in a 41-16 romp over visiting Marion.
