Gladwin golf season ends at regional

CHARLEVOIXOnly the top three of the 20 teams in the field for last Wednesday’s Division 3 golf regional at Belvedere Golf Club in Charlevoix advanced to the state tournament and Gladwin missed the cut.Traverse City St. Francis was first with a four-man score of 303 for 18 holes.

Gladwin softball team bows out

The state tournament ended early for the Gladwin softball team last Tuesday when the Flying G’s lost 14-6 at Ogemaw Heights in a Division 2 Pre-District contest.Gladwin got some offense going early and was in the game, but defensive mistakes were costly.Lainey Nash was the losing pitcher.
The 1940 Rhodes Baseball team, which included three members of the Carstens’ family: William (Bill), Sr., center backrow/manager, Cal Carstens, far right back row, and Robert Carstens, far right second row. Cal Carstens, who is being inducted posthumously at the 2025 NEM baseball reunion, had just joined the team as a pitcher, after playing minor league baseball for the Cincinnati Orinda Reds in California.

PINCONNINGThe Northeast Michigan (NEM) baseball league will host its 29th Annual Reunion on June 22, 2025, 11 a.m., at the Cheese House in Pinconning, Michigan. The Pinny Cheese house is located near I-75 at Pinconning Road.

STANDISHThe team ranked No. 2 in Division 2 in the state baseball polls needed two more wins to complete an undefeated run through the Jack Pine Conference schedule when Standish hosted Gladwin in a doubleheader Friday.

One streak ended, another began last week for the Beaverton softball team.In a good way.When visiting Coleman beat the Beavers in the first game of a doubleheader last Monday, it marked their eighth loss in a row.

WEST BRANCHAfter pulling out a pair of tough 1-0 victories over Ogemaw Heights during the regular season, the Gladwin soccer team knew it would have another battle on its hands in the first round of the Division 2 districts last Tuesday.

GJHS boys run fourth at regional

BRETHRENThe Gladwin Junior High boys’ track team placed fourth in the Large School Division at the Zone 7 regional meet last Monday at Brethren. The Flying G’s finished with 60.5 points. Meridian won the championship with 123.
