GLADWINGladwin’s David Volk will tell you that he loves basketball.He loves it enough to have spent the past 20 years refereeing high school games.Volk will show up with his whistle for boys’ or girls’ games throughout the area.

Linwood Post 239 finishes season

GLADWINThe Linwood Post 239 Class AA American Legion Team played in a four team Zone 4 State Baseball Tournament at Mt. Pleasant High School this past weekend finishing in third place. As a result of Post 239’s finish, the team failed to qualify for the state tournament.

Jim Vanatta, of Gladwin, had his first hole-in-one of the 2025 season at Devils Knob Golf Course in Harrison. Jim used a 5 iron to put the ball on the green and it then bounced to the hole. Delbert Mahan witnessed the event.

MIDLANDThe Linwood Post 239 Class AA American Legion baseball team played in the 10-team Gabby Mills Tournament in Midland over the weekend and finished with a record of 2-2. Earlier in the week, Post 239 took two games from Big Rapids Rubber Ducks Post 98 at Mt. Pleasant High School on Tuesday.
