EVARTThe Beaverton junior varsity football team opened the season with a 14-6 victory at Evart last Wednesday.The Wildcats scored first at 7:40 of the first quarter to take a 6-0 lead.The Beavers struck back with 42 seconds left in the half ona 38-yard pass from Dalton Dull to Reese Roggentine.

BY SCOTT SALOWICHWEST BRANCHLast season was Ogemaw Heights’ first as a member of the Jack Pine Conference and the Falcons made an impression, finishing tied with Clare atop the Division 1 standings with a 4-1 record and claiming the championship with a win over the Pioneers.

The Beaverton football team will kick things off Friday night with a home game against visiting Evart, hoping to avenge a one-point loss in last season’s opener.

GLADWINhe Gladwin volleyball team opened the seasonTwith a quadrangular last Wednesday and posted a 2-1 record.The loss was not unexpected.The Flying G’s beat Houghton Lake 25-10, 25-8 and Tawas 25-18, 25-9, but the going got a lot tougher after that in a 25-13, 25-8 loss to Roscommon.
