Beaverton legend Coach Van’ passes away

BEAVERTONBeaverton lost one of its legends last Tuesday when football coach Dick Van Wieren passed away at the age of 87.“Coach Van,” who is immortalized by a sign on the scoreboard at Metzger Field, coached for 24 years before retiring in 1985.

PINCONNINGThe Gladwin freshman volleyball team played its first tournament Saturday in Pinconning.In pool play, the Flying G’s beat Standish and Pinconning and split with Saginaw Nouvel and Ogemaw Heights to finish second and advance to bracket play.
