A good place for August volleyball

BEAVERTON The Beaverton varsity volleyball team played Lake City, Charlevoix, and Manistee on Saturday, August 19, for a Kingsley Tournament pool play. Scores were 0-2 versus Lake City, 1-1 versus Charlevoix, and 2-0 versus Manistee.

Beaverton football opens the season against Evart

BEAVERTON The Beaverton varsity team went head-to-head with Evart winning 38-22. This was a great program win. “Our young men faced a lot of adversity earlier in the game and responded very well,” said coach Aaron Seiser.

GLADWIN Jim Simpson had a holein- one at Gladwin Heights Golf Course, hole number 13, during the Allbright Shores Eagles outing. It was witnessed by Dennis O’Brien, Jerry Phillian, and Randy Bradford.

GLADWIN COUNTY The third Annual Al Crawford Scotch Doubles Bowling Fundraiser, to support the Gladwin Area Friends of the Theatre, will take place on Oct. 29 at Meadow Lanes, 430 W. 5th St. Sign up begins at 1 p.m., and bowling starts at 2 p.m. Cost will be $40.

Tailgate event planned in Beaverton

GLADWIN COUNTY Mid Michigan College is hosting a tailgate event and scholarship giveaway at the Beaverton versus Clare varsity football game on Friday, September 8 in Beaverton. College representatives and current students will be at the field starting at 6 p.m.

Beaverton and Gladwin CC meet at St. Johns

The first Cross Country Meet of the season was held this past Friday, August 18, at St. Johns High School. According to the Michigan High School Athletic Association rules, the event was held on the first competition Friday of the cross country season.

First scrimmage, first game

GLADWIN Scrimmage On Tuesday, August 15, I watched both the Junior Varsity (JV) and Varsity Lady G’s Volleyball teams scrimmage against Beal City. It may have only been a scrimmage, but these girls were still in it to win.
Gladwin girls participated in the Under the Lights Invitational, night time cross country meet in St. Johns Friday night, August 18. The girls team did well with taking ninth out of 18 schools participating at the 11th annual event in St Johns. Coach Bob Sackrider, St. Johns Cross Country coach started this event as one of the first meets of the season available to local cross country runners. Gladwin’s Abby Robinson took sixth place out of the 175 runners with a time of 20:26.9.

Gladwin CC places fourth

Gladwin High School Cross Country Boys and Girls teams traveled to St. Johns for their first cross country meet of the season. Not only was it the first meet, it was also the first meet for all the runners and the coaches to be held at night under the lights.
