BEAVERTON The top team in the Jack Pine Conference was in town Friday night and the Beaverton boys’ basketball team had to face the music. Meridian ran away with a 51-29 victory as the Beavers missed too many notes, not to mention shots, to keep up.

BEAVERTON The two teams that were tied for first place in the Jack Pine Conference girls’ basketball standings squared off Friday night and Meridian stood alone at the head of the pack after an impressive 69-39 victory at Beaverton. “That’s a really good team,” said Beavers coach Jason Hubble.

GLADWIN After hosting two big wrestling events over the weekend, Gladwin coach Buddy Goldsworthy liked what he saw. “There were some great teams and a lot of very good wrestlers here and we did a lot of learning,” said Goldsworthy. “We’re going to be better as the season moves on because of that.

SANFORD Whether the competition was for a full squad or individuals, the Gladwin boys’ bowling team was on a roll last week. On Wednesday, the Flying G’s remained tied with Pinconning atop the Jack Pine conference standings at 4-0 with a 27-3 victory over Meridian at Valley Lanes.

TRAVERSE CITY Gold medalist Gaven Evans Furgeson led the Gladwin wrestling team to a successful showing at the Traverse City West Holiday Invitational Thursday. “It was a very early Thursday morning bus ride for the boys but well worth the drive,” said Flying G’s coach Buddy Goldsworthy.
Cindy Jones harvested her first archery buck, a 7-point, and her biggest ever, on November 1 at The Jones Ranch. A perfect broadside 45-yard double lung shot. It didn’t go very far. She was accompanied by her husband, Chuck Jones, who was able to grunt him into range.
