4-H broiler chicken contest

GLADWIN COUNTYThe broiler chicken contest was held at the fairgrounds this past week. 4-H club students lined up with chickens in tow to have a judge inspect and rate their projects.

Summer Art Kids Camp Aug. 5-9

GLADWINGladwin Artist’s Guild is excited to once again offer a week-long art camp for kids ages 6-11 at the Gladwin County District Library.Kids will become “Art Explorers” and enjoy creating all sorts of fun projects. From painting to clay and from making bugs to monster pencil toppers.

Artus Van Briggle and his wife, Anne, were decorators at the Rookwood Pottery in Ohio. They moved to Colorado after Artus was diagnosed with tuberculosis, and he opened his own pottery there, the Van Briggle Pottery, in 1901.After Artus died in 1904, Anne took over the pottery.

Invasive spotted lanternfly confirmed in Monroe County

LANSINGThe Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development confirmed the state’s second detection of invasive spotted lanternfly (Lycorma delicatula) in Monroe County. A small population of juvenile spotted lanternfly was recently detected in Lambertville, with the U. S.
