MERCEDES COMO – 100 YEARS STRONG

The family of Mercedes is requesting a card shower in honor of her 100th birthday on May 23. She was born in 1925 in West Aliquippa, PA as Mercedes Catherine Berlich. There she met and married the love of her life, Elvio Como.

Beaverton to celebrate Memorial Day May 26

BEAVERTONPlans are now in place for the 2025 Memorial Day commemoration on Monday, May 26. As usual, there will be a parade in Beaverton. Lineup is at 1:30 p.m. at the municipal parking lot near the Community Center. The timing is to accommodate the parade in Gladwin earlier in the day.

GLADWIN STUDENTS HOLD 25TH ANNUAL PLANT SALE

Gladwin High School held its 25th Annual Plant Sale Saturday at the school. Native perennials and heirloom vegetables such as cucumbers, peppers, squash and tomatoes were available, along with herbs.

The FIRST Tech Challenge team based at Beaverton Junior/Senior High School competed in the Great Lakes Bay Region Final Dive robotics competition Saturday at Midland High School.

The Big Boys Club 15th annual golf tourney Aug. 2

GLADWIN COUNTYThe Big Boys Club of Gladwin County will be hosting its 15th annual golf tournament at Gladwin Heights Golf Course on Aug. 2.The organization was formed about 25 years ago as the Wooden Shoe Big Boys.

GHS STUDENTS FEED THE NEED FOR ART

This “taco-dile” was on display in the hallway at Gladwin High School Saturday to greet the over 500 guests who attended the Visual Arts Department’s annual Creative Reflections Art Show and Silent Auction.

EMPTY BOWLS EVENT AT GHS A BIG SUCCESS

The Gladwin and Beaverton High School visual arts classes, Gladwin Spanish classes and the Gladwin SPARKS program teamed up to host Empty Bowls 2025 last Monday. Almost 100 guests stopped in to eat soup, buy a bowl and make art.
