Linwood Post 239 4-0 at “Founding Father” Ultimate Strike Zone Tourney last weekend

LINWOODThe Linwood Post 239 American Legion 18U Baseball Team went 4-0 in last weekend’s 2024 23rd Annual “Founding Father” Ultimate Strike Zone Tournament to win the Championship.Linwood started off pool play with a 21-3 victory over Palacios Tailors.

Beaverton’s Kayla Newman named to softball All-Star Game

BEAVERTONBeaverton’s Kayla Newman has been selected to play in the Michigan High School Softball Coaches Association Senior All-Star Game.Newman will play for the Division 3 Red Squad, along with Jack Pine Conference rivals Grace Chinavare, Makenna Matzke and Kendal Holzinger of Meridian.

GWSD held 42nd annual dance recital

GLADWIN COUNTYThe Gail Wildfong School of Dance (GWSD) held its 42nd annual dance recital June 6-8 at the Gladwin High School Cafetorium. Approximately 250 dancers performed in four separate recitals, wowing nearly sold-out audiences each time.

BASS CAUGHT

Marcus Myers, 13-years-old, caught a 21-inch large mouth bass on July 1, 2024. The bass weighed three pounds and was caught on Nester Lake in Arthur Township, Clare, MI. It was caught in the evening.

Local youth baseball team bids farewell after playing together since 2021

The Gladwin County Captains, a community- based baseball team was created in 2021 by head coach Jim Oard, coached alongside of Justin Reid. The team consisted of boys from both Beaverton and Gladwin, who shared a love for the sport and a desire to improve their skills.

Linwood Post 239 to play at 44th annual Gabby Mills Fourth of July Tournament

GLADWINThe 8-5 Linwood Post 239’s will play at the 44th annual Gabby Mills Fourth of July Tournament in Midland.They will be at Northwoods University Friday, July 5, and Saturday, July 6, with two games on Friday at 2 p.m. against Blissfield and at 4 p.m. against the Capital City Kings number one.

Kids can learn to golf this summer

Annual 0.5K Micro Marathon July 14

JPC All-Conference awards

GLADWINGladwin finished third in the Northern Michigan Soccer League standings with Abigail Palmreuter, Katie Seebeck, Brooke Falor and Lillian Binger earning All-Conference honors. Brooke Methner and Aloisia Graveline were Honorable Mention.
