CADILLACAfter finishing behind both Shepherd and Clare at the first Jack Pine Division jamboree of the season last Wednesday at Pine River Golf Course in Standish, the Gladwin boys’ cross country team moved up in the world Saturday at the Veterans Serving Veterans Invitational in Cadillac.

BEAVERTONAn impressive 28-0 victory over Harrison lifted the Beaverton junior varsity football team’s record to 3-1 Thursday night.The Beavers took the opening kickoff and took control of the game, marching right down the field and scoring on a 15-yard touchdown run by Colton Miller.

HARRISONComing back from the brink evened the Beaverton volleyball team’s Jack Pine Conference record at 1-1 last Wednesday as the Beavers rallied for a wild 13-25, 24-26, 25-13, 25-16, 15-7 victory at Harrison.Trinity Danielak led the comeback with 11 kills, 13 digs and two 2 aces.

STANDISHProgress was made Friday night when the Standish-Sterling football team pushed visiting Bullock Creek to overtime, but the Panthers are still looking for their first victory after a 20-13 loss.“We got a lot closer than we were the past two weeks,” said SSC coach Marty Malcolm.

Make-A-Wish gentleman (BJ) was made an honorary captain before the Standish-Sterling and Bullock Creek game. The team presented him with a helmet and jersey.

Fireworks go off in Ogemaw’s big win

WEST BRANCHBig plays were going off like fireworks Friday night when the Ogemaw Heights football team beat visiting Shepherd 49-14.Corie Kanitz lit the fuse. He ran for a 59-yard touchdown on the second play to begin the game and returned a kickoff 90 yards to end it.

GLADWINThe Gladwin Junior High School (GJHS) crosscountry teams traveled to Standish Wednesday, Sept. 17, to run in the first Jackpine Conference Jamboree.
