Panthers celebrate first grid victory

STANDISHThe wait was long, but the celebration made it worthwhile when the Standish-Sterling football team topped visiting Pinconning 21-8 Friday night for its first victory of the season.“It was a great win for the program,” said SSC coach Marty Malcolm.

Beavers sweep through D-2 volleyball rivals

BEAVERTONThe brooms were busy last Wednesday night. A three-set sweep of Pinconning completed a sweep through Division 2 of the Jack Pine Conference and left the Beaverton volleyball team alone at the top with a 5-0 record.Beaverton beat the Spartans 25-18, 25-20, 25-12.

Soccer team shows growth at seasons end

TAWASAtough season came to an end last Wednesday when the Gladwin soccer team was knocked out of the Division 2 district tournament with a 3-0 loss at Tawas.The Flying G’s finished with a 4-15-0 record, but it’s not hard to find evidence of the kind of progress the young team made along the way.
