Many years ago, I read a book by Martin Buber (1878 1965) titled “Ich und Du”. It was translated from the German into English as “I and Thou” which doesn’t fully express its true meaning. The book is about relationships, The “I and Thou” tendency is to think of it as a book about our relationship with God, while the “Ich und Du” tendency is to think about it as a book about personal relationships with other persons. The German word, Du, is the word for another person while the word Ihnen is formal and not personal. A better name for the book in English would have been I and You or even better, “Me and You”.
