Gladwin girls’ track team wins JPC dual meet debut

SANFORDThe starter’s pistol has gone off to begin the race for the Jack Pine Conference championship and the Gladwin girls’ track team is off and running after last Wednesday’s 99-37 victory at Meridian.Just keep in mind, this is more of a marathon than a sprint.

Beavers fall to Tawas to miss shot at tourney title

BEAVERTONBig hits and drama carried the Beaverton softball team to a pair of victories at the Dar Grove Invitational Saturday, but both were in short supply in the final game of pool play when Tawas topped the home team 8-3.

Gladwin boys run off with another invitational title

CADILLACAfter winning the Freeland Invitational by just one point the week before, the Gladwin boys’ track team took no chances Friday, running away with the title at the Rathbun Invitational on Friday with 148.5 points.Host Cadillac was second with 114 and Petoskey third with 111.

GLADWINThe Gladwin Junior High Track teams faced off against Meridian Farewell and Harrison schools in their very first track meet of the year. The Gladwin boys recorded many top five overall finishes in both races and events.Connor Ward placed first in the 70 meter dash with a time of 9.

Players are: Dalton Dull, Parker Woods, Eisen Corlew, Brady Boynton, Preston Newman, MJ McDonald, Caden McKeever, Karsen Reid, Cameron Oard and Trinity Hair. Coaches are: Mike Mieske, Jimmy Oard, Justin Reid and Jake Oard.

Apair of high-scoring victories got the season off to a good start for the Beaverton softball team on April 5.The Beavers beat visiting St. Charles 8-7 in the first game and 11-7 in the second.The opener was quite a battle.

Last week brought an all or nothing kind of start to the season for the Gladwin baseball team, which emerged from two doubleheaders with a 2-2 record.“The team is looking great,” said Flying G’s coach Alec Gary. “We have a lot of young talent with varsity experience.

Beaverton Alumni Association reunion slated

BEAVERTONThe Beaverton Alumni Association will meet on May 1 at 3 p.m., at the Beaverton Activity Center, 106 Tonkin Street, upstairs in the Cedar River Room. A business meeting will be held and a discussion on the upcoming reunion. All classmates 1940 through 1975 are invited.

Track and field records were broken at Gladwin High School. Logan Klein threw 55 feet, 4 inches in the shot put, and Caleb Palmreuter ran the 1600 in 4:21.07.
