Gladwin “Dethrones” reigning state champions

ITHACA The Flying G’s of Gladwin and the Cougars of Grand Rapids Catholic Central converged in Ithaca at the Ithaca Community Stadium on Saturday. The two football squads tussled in the snow for two hours, bidding for a trip to Ford Field and the Division 5 State Finals Championship game.

Gladwin Flying G’s football, regional champions once more

MUSKEGON It wasn’t all smooth sailing but Gladwin returned from Muskegon regional champions after defeating the Muskegon Oakridge Eagles 26-8. The victory marked only the second time in school history the Flying G’s football program has captured a regional title, and their first since 1998.

Beaverton Volleyball falls to Oscoda in regionals

LAKE CITY The Beaverton Beavers varsity volleyball season officially ended November 8, losing to the Oscoda Owls in the regional round of the playoffs. Beaverton started strong taking the first two sets of the match with scores of 25-23 and 25-14.

GLADWIN LYLE DANLEY Marc Jarstfer, Gladwin Varsity football coach, won his second consecutive Jack Pine conference Coach of the Year this season. His Flying G’s went undefeated during the 2022 regular season and have just recently won their first regional title since 1998.

HOUGHTON LAKE The lady Beavers Volleyball team may have missed out as Jack Pine champions this season. The minor setback has not stopped the Beavers from making a deep playoff run. The Beaverton Beavers won their sixth straight district title after back-to-back trips to Houghton Lake.

GLADWIN The sidelines exploded Saturday afternoon with commotion. Screaming fans rattled the metal bleachers as they cheered the Flying G’s to victory over the Kingsford Flivvers 59-25, Gladwin’s first district title in over 20 years. The clouds loomed over the field, blocking the sun.
