Ferris State University Disc Golf Team members earn All-American honors at national championships

BIG RAPIDS Ferris State University disc golf competitors earned two All-American-qualifying performances and a top-10 finish at the College Disc Golf National Championship in Marion, NC, April 5-8. College of Pharmacy student Rachel Dupre, of Gladwin, continued her success in major events.

GLADWIN The Lady G’s of softball opened conference play Thursday night, defending their home turf against the Harrison Hornets with two victories. The girls triumphed over the Hornets with a 10-0 shutout in game one.

GLADWIN COUNTY The Sugar Springs Golf Club will be once again hosting the Veterans Appreciation Golf Outing this summer. This year’s outing will take place on Monday, June 12, with registration beginning at 7:45 a.m. This event will feature a shotgun scramble, with 30 teams of four.

Gladwin boys Track off to excellent start to begin season

FREELAND The Gladwin Boys Track and Field team are off to a fast start this season. After hosting an 8-team event in the season’s opening week, the Flying G’s took a trip to Freeland on April 15 for a very competitive 13-team invitational.

Multiple Beavers set new personal records for Track and Field last week

BEAVERTON Beaverton traveled to Pinconning last Wednesday, competing in conference action against the Pinconning Spartans and the Farwell Eagles. The Beaverton boys split against their competition, defeating Farwell 65-36 but losing to the Spartans 65-62.

Gladwin bowlers competed in the Northern Tournament at Lucky Jack’s Bowling Center in Traverse City. Those in the ‘Three Hundred Club’ included: Carley Lynn VanTiem, Kevin VanTiem, Mike Drawe (300 with an 800 series), and Ryan Day.

GLADWIN The Lady G’s took to the Track and Field last Wednesday, hosting their first conference meet of the season. The Flying G’s dueled against Shepherd and Harrison, kicking off their conference season with a 1-1 record.

Beaverton baseball wins one, loses one over the weekend

BEAVERTON Beaverton hosted a tournament over the weekend inviting Standish-Sterling and Ithaca to partake in the event. The Beavers defeated the Standish-Sterling Panthers 4-1 but failed to keep pace with the Ithaca Yellow Jackets, losing to Ithaca 13-2.

GLADWIN The famous Sam’s Scramble is going strong at Gladwin Heights Golf Course. The scramble will be every Friday through out the year. Bring your own team or come alone. We will make you a team. This is a great fun event for all.

The Gladwin Golf team took first place out of seven teams in the Gladwin Invitational at Sugar Springs Golf Club on April 20. Golfers Aiden McKenna, Treyton Siegert and Hunter McDowell all finished in the top five.
