MIDLAND – The Gladwin High School Equestrian Team ended their spectacular season with a strong demonstration of Flying G pride at the Michigan Interscholastic Horsemanship Association State Equestrian Meet in Midland, Oct. 9-13. Having an already impressive regular season as District 6 Reserve Champions, and Regional Champions, the GHS riders exhibited their laser focus and hours of preparation put into each event at the state meet. Every rider on the team contributed points and GHS finished a strong 7th place in Division B competition.
Seniors Alaina Cuddie, Danielle Klamer and Heidi Inscho had career highlights. Alaina and her horse Chevy earned an impressive 1st place in Saddleseat Showmanship and multiple other strong placings such as in 10th in both Flag Race and Equitation Over Fences. Danielle and her horse Whisper put the team on the board first with an 8th place finish in Western Riding and added 1st place and 9th place points in the Timed Event and a 1st place in Two Man relay with partner Chloe Bruner, also two 3rd place finishes in Cloverleaf. Heidi and her horse Hidalgo were a strong presence in the pleasure classes placing 6th in both Western and Hunt Seat Fitting and Showing, and a 4th place Saddleseat Fitting and Showing, also 4th in Saddleseat Pattern and 8th in Western Bareback.
The juniors on the team comprised of Avery Hite, Chloe Bruner and Hailey Kokowicz were also a force to be reckoned with. Avery and her horse Diamond placed an impressive 6th place in Flag Race and 6th and 7th in Two Man Relay with partner, Hailey. Chloe and her new horse, Annie got a 9th in Hunt Seat Showmanship to contribute to the pleasure points. Chloe and her horse Rio dominated speed with two 2nd places in Timed Event, 1st and 2nd in Cloverleaf Pattern (Having the Second Fastest time in the State in all divisions 16.895), and 1st in Two Man Relay with partner Danielle. Hailey also showed off her versatility with a 10th place in Trail, and 7th in Western Horsemanship with her horse Sissy, followed by an impressive 6th in Timed Event and 6th and 7th in Two Man Relay riding her horse Coolio with partner, Avery Hite.
