Six Beaverton Wrestlers qualify for Regionals

BEAVERTON – Beaverton competed in the Individual District Wrestling Tournament last Saturday in Mayville. It was a successful trip for the Beavers as they came away with two district champions and six regional qualifiers. Brothers Jacob and Kyle Cassiday won district crowns at 160 lbs. and 189 lbs. respectively.

Kyle Cassiday had three pins on the day. After a bye in the first round he pinned teammate Kade Tripp and Tyler Petriches of Mayville. Cassiday then pinned Shane Osantowski from Ubly in the finals to claim the championship. Jacob Cassiday also received a bye in the first round. After pinning Carson Affer of Bad Axe he faced teammate Cameron Austin in the semifinals taking a narrow 4-2 decision. He then scored a 10-0 major decision over Julius Garza of New Lothrop.

Other regional qualifiers for Gladwin included Jack Owens, Brandon Shearer, Reuben Adams, and Cameron Austin. Owens and Shearer both placed second after losing in the finals. Owens lost to Justin Carnahan of New Lothrop while Shearer fell to Max Kukulski of Vassar. After losing to Jacob Cassiday, Austin battled back through the consolation rounds to finish fourth and qualify. Adams lost his first match but was also able to win his way back in the consolation bracket to finish fourth and earn a regional berth.
