JENISON – The Beaverton and Gladwin Track and Field Teams each sent three athletes to the state finals this weekend in the Grand Rapids area. Beaverton in Division 3 competed at Jenison High School. Gladwin, in division 2, was at Zeeland East.
Both meets were interrupted by severe storms that moved through the area delaying them for several hours. This had to be particularly difficult for our local athletes. All six qualified in field events, which were scheduled to occur during the height of the storm.
Juniors Will Aldrich and Elijah Hayes from Beaverton qualified in the pole vault in Division 3. Aldrich placed second with a new personal best of 14 feet. Hayes cleared 11’3 but did not medal. Sophomore Rebecca Wirt finished seventh in the high jump at 4’11.
In the Division 2 Finals Gladwin’s Rachael Parrett jumped 4’11. Shot putter Jeffrey Charlton’s best throw of the day was 46’03. Victor Edick competed in both the high jump and pole vault.
