GLADWIN – Alpena came to town last weekend for a pair of games with the PeeWee Gladiators. It didn’t take Gladwin long to get on the board in game one. Winger Ashton scored before the two-minute mark when he took a pass from Ike Wheeler and buried the puck to give Gladwin a 1-0 lead. Good pressure in the offensive zone along with tough defense resulted in a 46-0 shots on goal advantage for Gladwin. Alpena didn’t get a single shot on goal in the game. Moe Newman led the attack with a hat trick. Clark Lux had two goals, Drew von Matt, Carter Nutt, Jeffrey Zeitz, Preston Willert and Wheeler also picked up goals for the Gladiators. Playmakers for Gladwin included Wheeler with five assists and Brae Guzman with three. Maggie Lux, von Matt, and MJ Osentoski also picked up assists. Goaltender Jacob McKinney didn’t face a shot, but did do a nice job of hustling to the bench to allow for an additional attacker on a delayed penalty.
Gladwin again had a huge shot differential in the second game outshooting Alpena 41-4 in a 13-1 win. Wheeler scored first for Gladwin tallying a total of four goals in the game. Willert, Newman and Reinke each had two goals in the game. Guzman and Zietz and Payton Freeman each had a goal. Zeitz and von Matt each earned playmaker awards with four and three assists respectively. Willert, Clark Lux, Nutt, Guzman each had one assist. The lone Alpena goal came when the defense got caught pinching in at he blue line leaving McKinney to face a two on one break.
Gladwin will host four games this weekend. The Gladiators will face the Gaylord PeeWee team in a league games on Saturday, Nov. 30 at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. On Sunday, Dec. 1 Traverse City Team #2 comes to Gladwin for league games at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
