The weather is finally getting better and the Gladwin baseball team is heating up. They have won seven straight games and only one of those has been close. After a 3-2 win over Beal City the Flying G’s have outscore their opponents 83-8. They swept a pair of double headers last week against Meridian and Chippewa Hills. 

Lincoln McKinnon got the start in the first game against Meridian last Thursday in Sanford. He gave up one hit and one earned run over his five innings of work while striking out 14. Gage Cingano pitched the sixth inning striking out one and giving up one hit as Gladwin took the game 13-3.

Gladwin had 11 hits and 10 RBIs in the game including three extra base hits. Kaden McDonald had a triple; Andrew Gary and Lucas Mead both had doubles. McKinnon had three hits and two RBIs. Lucas Mead and Andrew Gary each had two hits. Seth Mead and Kaden McDonald both had two RBIs.

The Flying G’s took the second game 9-3. They continued to hit the ball well collecting 12 hits. Lucas Mead, McKinnon, Connor Dee, and Cingano each had two hits. One of McKinnon’s hits was a homerun to left field in the fourth inning. Seth Mead, Randy Przyewski, Caleb Searfoss and Richard Woodford each had one hit. Lucas Mead and Przyewski each had doubles.

Lucas Mead pitched for Gladwin. He went the full five innings giving up four hits and three runs while striking out five. With the sweep Gladwin improved to 4-0 in the Jack Pine Conference, which puts them in a second place tie with Clare. Pinconning leads the league with a 6-0 record.

Gladwin traveled to Remus on Saturday for a nonconference double header with Chippewa Hills. They continued to hit the ball well taking the first game 13-0 and the second 12-2. McDonald and Woodford both homered to left field for Gladwin in the sixth inning of the first game.  McDonald had four RBIs to lead the Flying G’s. McKinnon and Woodford each had two. Lucas Mead had three hits; McKinnon, McDonald and Woodford had two. Dee got the complete game victory for Gladwin. He gave up five hits and struck out for Chippewa Hills batters.

The second game only lasted three innings with the Flying G’s winning 12-2. McDonald got the start on the mound and the win. He gave up four hits and struck out eight. 

Josh Leinenger homered for Gladwin in the second inning. He also had three RBIs. Jayden Mieske, and McDonald each had two RBIs.  Connor Dee, Przyewski, Brayden Dee and Leinenger all had two hits. 

The Flying G’s were 9-2 overall heading into their double header with Farwell last night. They host Beaverton on Thursday at 4 p.m.
