GLADWIN – Gladwin bounced back from its first loss of the year with a 3-3 tie with Shepherd and win over Pine River 8-0. The Blue Jays were 9-1-1 coming into the game. Their only loss was to undefeated Midland Calvary Baptist so coach Smalley knew it would be a good test.
“Shepherd is a really good team so I was pleased with the tie,” said Coach Jerome Smalley. “My only disappointment was that we lost many 50-50 balls.” Jonathon Grijalva had two goals, Cedrick Gutierrez scored the other Gladwin goal. Jackson Raymond and Gutierrez also had assists in the game. Allen Imm made 11 saves and “Cal Woodbury and Wilson Bragg has strong games,” according to Smalley.
Pine River didn’t provide much competition. The Flying G’s led 7-0 at halftime and ended the game about a minute into the second half when Jon Grijalva scored his fourth goal of the game on an assist from Dakota Leddy. Jackson Raymond scored two goals, Cedrick Gutierrez and Tanner Reeds had one each. Allen Imm had one save in the game. “I was pleased with our overall play. We were unselfish and passed the ball really well,” said Coach Jerome Smalley.
The Flying G’s are 15-1-2 heading into the final two games of the regular season. They wrap up conference play with Clare on Oct. 2 and Pinconning on the 3rd.
The Wednesday night game with Clare will be parent’s night.
