GLADWIN

The Gladwin girls capped off a great conference season with a win in the Jack Pine Conference track meet last Tuesday. They outdistanced Shepherd 184-162.5 to take the meet and the overall conference championship. The Clare boys outscored Gladwin 168-163 in the meet to take the conference championship. Gladwin finished second overall.

The Flying G’s were paced by freshman Ava Gary in the girls meet. She won three events including the 100m, 200m and high jump. Gary’s time of 26.91 in the 200m was a new personal record. Lizzie Haines won both hurdle events for Gladwin. Her 49.33 is a new personal record in the 300m distance.

Gladwin’s other conference championship came in the 4x200m relay. Three freshmen; Breanna Campbell, Tessa Shea, Kamya Cajigas and senior Macy Haines got it done for the Flying G’s. 

Top six finishers for Gladwin included: Breanna Campbell second and Lizzie Haines fourth in the 100m; Racheal Nyarko fourth and Tessa Shea sixth in the 200m; Nyarko second, Gary third and Macy Haines sixth in the 400m; Campbell second and Madisyn Wendling sixth in the 300m hurdles.

The 4x100 relay of Sara Bowman, Morgan Bailey, M. Haines and Cajigas finished second; M. Haines, Nyarko, Shea and Abby Robinson finished second in the 4x400 relay, and Wendling, Ivy Geer, Tricia Pyrzewski, and Robinson came in third in the 4x800 relay.

The Flying G’s also did well in the field events. Rylie Palmeteer finished second in the shot put; Ava Hale came in third and Chloe Lawrason fifth in the discus; Callie Mead set a personal record with a jump of 5’ 2” in the high jump; Emily Heyer finished third in the pole vault and Nyarko came in second and Robinson third in the long jump.

Caleb Palmreuter won three events in the boys’ meet. He placed first in the 800m, 1600m, and 3200m. Hunter Huguelet came in first in the shot put with a personal record throw of 44’ 5.57” and the 4x800m relay team of Elijah Christensen, Dakota Leddy, Palmreuter and Andrew Von Matt finished first.

Top six finishers for the boys’ included: Jhace Massey third in the 100m, fourth in the 200m, second in the 400m and fifth in the long jump; Christensen fifth in the 3200m; Nick Wheeler second and Drake Ross sixth in the 110m hurdles; Wheeler second and Logan Simrau fifth in the 300m hurdles.

The 4x100 relay team of Earl Esiline, Nathan Stien, Logan Kokotovich, and Trystan Battjes finished second; Stien, Simrau, Erik Rorrow, and Battjes came in third in the 4x200 relay; Von Matt, Dakota Leddy, Dalton Peters, and Roggow finished fifth in the 4x400 relay. 

The Flying G’s also racked up a number of points in the field events. Kokotovich finished second to Huguelet in the shot put and also set a personal record of 132’ 2” while finishing second in the discus; David Dremer came in fourth in the high jump; Ross finished fourth in the pole vault; Esiline third and Massey fifth in the long jump.
