GLADWIN – The Gladwin Basketball program will be hosting a pair of Coaches vs. Cancer basketball games this season. Farm Bureau Insurance of Gladwin and the American Cancer Society have teamed up to help win the fight against cancer. Norm Stewart, former University of Missouri head basketball coach, founded The Coaches vs. Cancer program in 1993. The concept has spread nationwide uniting coaches, fans, players and community in the battle to end cancer. The Gladwin boys and girls basketball teams are excited to participate in the fight. The boys will host a game on February 11 against Chippewa Hills while the girls’ game will be played on the 13th against Farwell.
Farm Bureau of Gladwin is sponsoring the purple jerseys that the teams will wear during the game. The backs of the jerseys will bare the name of a loved one who has been affected by cancer. During the game the community will have many different ways to get involved including; purchasing a paper to pledge support, purchasing a Luminaire which will be displayed on game day and again in April at the Relay for Life, participating in the Pop Shot with the proceeds donated to the American Cancer Society, and the Miracle Minute in which the respective teams will have one minute to raise money. The Gladwin Basketball Program hopes that the entire community will come out and support then in their effort to raise money for the American Cancer Society.
