BAY CITY – The Beaverton volleyball team traveled to Bay City Central for a Quad on Saturday morning. The Beavers are searching for good competition and found it Saturday. They won a close match with Swan Valley 25-23, 25-21. The Vikings are a Division 2 school that advanced to the district finals against Freeland last season.
They played Division 1 Alpena in their second match sweeping them 25-16, 25-16. The host, Bay City Central provided the final competition of the day. Central is also a Division 1 team. The Beavers came up short in what turned out to be a very competitive match the Wolves won 24-26, 25-26. “We had more great competition today at Central. We improved on some areas and looked good most of the day,” said Coach Steve Evans. “We led Central in the 20s in both sets and couldn’t make a few more plays to close it out. The level of competition we are facing is really pushing us to another level.”
Mady Pahl added 35 assists, 19 digs, 9 kills and 6 aces. Molly Gerow had 21 kills, 27 digs and 6 blocks. Alexis Grove chipped in with 25 digs. The Beavers are 3-4 on the season, 1-0 in the Jack Pine Conference. They travel to Shepherd on Wednesday and are in Clare next Monday. The Beavers will step out of confernce several more times this year when they host a quad with Beal City, TC St. Francis and Swan Valley and travel to the St. Louis and Leland Invitationals.
