BEAVERTON – The 8th ranked Beaverton volleyball team opened Jack Pine Conference play with a three game sweep of the Pinconning Spartans 25-13, 25-18, 25-14. “It was nice to be home playing in front of our fans,” said Coach Steve Evans. “We started out a little tight, but worked through that as the night went along. Becca Wirt had a great night attacking in the middle.” Molly Gerow had 21 kills and 11 digs for the Beavers. Becca Wirt had 8 kills, Macie Jerome 16 digs and 2 aces, Mady Pahl 33 assists, 13 digs, and 3 aces.
The Beavers hosted a good Swan Valley team on Monday night taking the match in straight sets 25-19, 25-18, and 25-20. Beaverton had control of game one from the start, but had to come from behind in both games two and three. Swan Valley held a 15-10 lead before some solid serving from Macie Jerome, Mady Pahl and Molly Gerow put the game away. Beaverton trailed again in game three, 15-18 before Hannah Stearns served 10 straight points for the win.
Molly Gerow had 23 kills and 7 digs, Mady Pahl added 36 assists and 8 digs, Macie Jerome had 14 digs. “Swan Valley is a really good team,” said Evans. “We had to keep them out of system to have a chance to win. Fortunately we were able to keep them on their heels enough to score.” With the pair of wins this week the Beavers are 21-1-1 overall and 1-0 in the Jack Pine Conference. They play in Clare tonight.
