Beaverton got off to a 16-4 first quarter lead last Friday night in Shepherd and were never seriously challenged on their way to a 49-38 win. The game was the Jack Pine Conference opener for both squads and runs the Beavers conference-winning streak to 11 games.
The Beavers got a huge offensive performance from Leiyah Mungin and Alexis Grove. Mungin led the Beavers with 24 points; Grove had 18 and was perfect on the night hitting all six of her shots from the floor including going three for three from beyond the three-point line. The game also marked the first Jack Pine action for Grace Danielak after a long recovery from an injury. She had a three-point bucket in the third quarter.
Faith Danielak and Taylor McCormack each had eight rebounds to lead the Beavers. Six of Danielak’s rebounds were on the offensive end. Mungin had seven, Grove six and Sawyer Gerow five to help Beaverton control the boards.
The Beavers are 1-1 overall and currently tied with Gladwin, Clare and Meridian atop the Jack Pine Conference standings with 1-0 records. Beaverton doesn’t play again until Friday when they travel to Harrison for a 7:30 p.m. game.
