Delaney Conley threw a no hitter in game one and Conley and Sadie Schuler combined for a no hitter in game two as the Flying G’s closed out the Jack Pine Conference portion of the season with two wins over Harrison last Tuesday. Conley struck out 22 Harrison batters in her 10 innings of work in the two games. Schuler pitched the final inning of the second game striking out one batter.
The Gladwin offense was as equally effective as the defense. The Flying G’s scored 26 runs on 24 hits in the two games. Chloe Kokotovich led the way with four hits and five RBIs.
Schuler had 4 hits and four RBIs. Other Flying G’s with multiple hits included; Conley (3), Maddie Cantrell (3), Maelen Guzman (3), Abby Manges (3), and Erin Breault with two. With the double header sweep of Harrison, Gladwin finished third in the Jack Pine Conference with a 9-5 record.
Gladwin traveled to Coleman on Thursday and swept the Comets 4-1 and 13-10. Conley went the distance in the first game giving up only two hits while striking out 15.
The lone Coleman run was unearned. She also had three hits in the game including a triple. Schuler had a pair of hits; Kokotovich and Manges both had doubles.
Schuler got the win in the second game throwing six and a third innings striking out nine. Conley took over with one out in the top of the seventh walking the first batter she faced before striking out the final two Comets to preserve the win. Conley, Guzman, Manges and Sindle Corlew all had two hits in the game. Conley had a triple; Cantrell and Schuler added doubles.
The Flying G’s closed out the regular season with a pair of games on Saturday. They beat Ogemaw Heights 8-1 and lost to Linden 10-0. They opened up MHSAA Tournament play yesterday against Petoskey at home. With a win over the Northmen they would move on to face Gaylord at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Johnson Field.
