Art Walk updates
To the Editor:
Art Walk Downtown is a fun evening event scheduled in downtown Gladwin on Friday, September 23, 2022. If that date sounds familiar to local football fans, it is because it is also the GHS Homecoming game. It was not our intention to have homecoming bump heads with an event that is meant to celebrate the amazing amount of creativity in Gladwin County.
We picked our date because it is the same weekend the first annual, hugely successful Art Walk was held last year. So, we’re wondering if we can work this all out so you can do both.
The homecoming parade is downtown around 4 p.m. The Art Walk begins late in the afternoon on Tuesday, September 20, when everyone has installed their creative items inside host-businesses who have made room for them.
But the big event, the one that attracted hundreds of you last year, is Friday evening, also at four o’clock. Why not see the parade and then make the walk down Cedar Avenue?
It’s been a busy summer for everyone and perhaps we were slow to get the word out that Art Walk is not a competition this year and it’s not just for artist guild members. Indeed, guild members are doing this for you. And it’s free! It is an exhibit for everyone who creates their own designs. No kits or patterns allowed. It is for retired hobbyists, for the guy who goes out to the garage every night after dinner to make things or a Mom who gets up before her kids do, so she can quilt, write poems, practice guitar or draw. Whether you are a full-time resident of the county or have a cottage here. Whether you are 16 or 86. Whether you think of yourself as an artisan or you’re simply proud of the stuff you come up with. This is the event for you.
Register by requesting a form at GladwinArtistGuild@gmail.com or call us at 989-246-1030. The deadline for entry moved to September 9. If folks don’t register, we will still have an art walk, but it won’t be the same without you.

Good luck G’s
To the Editor:
It’s kickoff time in Gladwin town,
the fans await the first touchdown.
The G’s are poised to make another run,
the fans are poised to have some fun.
They’ll be playing with a target on their back,
but, we have the team that can withstand the attack.
We have Nick and Logan and Lucas and more,
too many to mention, we have talent galore.
They can run, they can pass and the defense is steady,
and we know the coaches will have the team ready.
We can’t wait to see them march down and score,
then call on someone to add one more.
If the snap is good and the hold is true,
anna-“matic” will put it through.
So, your fan base is there, they’re ready to roam,
they’ll be with you, be it away or at home.
And I’ll tune in WGDN on those Friday nights,
listening for Sam to sing “turn out the lights.”
So, go get ‘em G’s, you’re a special bunch,
this year is special, I have a hunch.
Good luck G’s, from an old Flying G,
Gladwin Class of 1952
