Evolution or

revolution?

To the Editor:

These concepts of evolution or revolution have been turning over in my mind lately, not evoking apes to humans over thousands of years or violent government overthrows, but how changes in our world are accomplished. Since the time I was a self-absorbed teenager coming of age in the Vietnam era the justification for one or the other has become clearer.

We’ve not seen millions of our citizens protest effectively enough to bring about real change. Our Vietnam adventure took many years of protests to reach our decision makers, and the civil rights advocated by MLK are still experiencing ups and downs. Evolution.

A nationwide cry for big, sustainable change to address today’s realities now, realities like climate change, economic and legal injustice and just how we treat each other are once again being challenged by the powers that be.

An opportunity that may not come again in decades is upon us in just a few short months. Revolution.

Event Thank You

To the Editor:

Recently, Beaverton Activity Center celebrated the major accomplishment of Dar Grove walking 1,500 miles in the gym.  That is the equivalent of walking from Beaverton to Miami, Florida, so the décor and refreshments took on a tropical theme thanks to Volunteers, Julie French, Jeannette Varner-Roehrs, and Nila Frei.  Also, on that day, Dar became the official ambassador for the re-named B-Fit Center (formerly BAC Fitness Center) located at the BAC. It was a great day for Dar, his family, friends, community, and the BAC Volunteers.

On behalf of the Volunteers for Beaverton Activity Center, we would like to thank the Gladwin County Record for the great coverage of this event. Additional thanks go to The Midland Daily News and 9 & 10 TV for sharing the news about this event. Photographs and video of the event were coordinated and provided by Volunteers Bryan Locey and Bob Frei. Graphic displays were prepared by Mitch Art.

Thank you to Tom O’Brien at O’Brien Signs for the sign that keeps track of Dar’s miles. Other Volunteers who were involved in planning and hosting this event were Mark Hayes, Kristine Caldwell, Scott Govitz, Jane Rowley Smith, Joan Cashin, Carole Randle, Laura Walters, Joel Freeman, Margie Dittmer, Dorothy Erway, and Billie Tarzwell. We appreciate the support of MidMichigan Health, Julie Wright, Brent Mikkola, Renee Lang, and Jessica Sullivan. MidMichigan Health provided water and booklets with information on living a healthy lifestyle.

Volunteers for Beaverton Activity Center are always on the lookout for individuals who are looking to become a part of our organization. Membership applications are available at the website:  www.beavetonactivitycenter.com or may be obtained at the Reception Area at the Beaverton Activity Center, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Fact or Opinion

To the Editor:

I’d like to start with two quotes, one by President John F Kennedy who said; “To often we enioy the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought”. The second quote is by Dr. Carl Jung who said; “Thinking is difficult. that’s why most people judge”.

I recently noticed an article written by I suppose, a well-meaning individual who mentioned the first pope as being Peter. This is an urban legend that was started by a religion who, by their own history, has always used urban legends to further their points. The definition of an urban legend is this: a story of obscure origin and with little or no supporting evidence that spreads spontaneously in varying forms.

So let’s try facts, not legends or opinions.

Fact # 1 The scriptures (not yet called the bible) was completed about AD 90 with a seal in Rev 24: 18-19 that finalized Gods scriptures. This last seal placed by God through/by the Apostle John is one of four seals found in the scriptures. These seals are very important in that they forbid the adding to, or taking away from God’s word.

Fact # 2 God chose a people out of the Gentile world to be a “peculiar people”. Go look at Exodus 19:6, these people were to be a “nation of priests”, not a religion with priests. These people were called Hebrew slaves, Hebrews, Israelites and then Jews. Sorry folks, this is a fact.

Fact # 3 Peter was nobody’s pope. In fact, the word pope is not found in the canonized bible. But the Apostles including Peter were chosen by Jesus Christ to do something special found in Matthew 19:28, And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, that ye which follow me, in the regeneration, when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit on twelve thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel. So we find that the Apostles were given a lot of power, and it was given about AD 33 or there about. That means if given any thought to these facts, that any religion at all, or any new bibles written or conceived after God sealed His words in AD 90 are not correct at all, because they go directly against the seals set in place 1,930 years ago.

Now that is three facts, these are verifiable with a bit of page turning, a little bit of reading and a lot of thinking. This will answer who is right on being true, or an urban legend; is it God (I’m betting its God) or man? Would you like me to name all the “religions” whom this makes Not, again I say, not correct in their attempt at theology?

Romans 3:4 God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightiest be justified in thy sayings, and mightiest overcome when thou art judged.

So let’s recap these facts: facts # 1,2 and 3 add up to God giving us His scriptures vs men using a bit of out of place scriptures and urban legend’s to create a confusing bunch of “religions”. Next time, let’s look at two whys, One is; Why the Apostle Paul? The other is why only the King James bible can be the correct Bible for you to use.

Food distribution postponed due to vandalism

To the Editor:

Wednesday, Feb. 26, was a food distribution day at the Helping Hands Mission in Beaverton. When our staff arrived early that morning, we were unable to open the doors to the warehouse where food supplies were ready to be packed into boxes for distribution. Vandalism to door locks threatened to prevent distribution of 210 boxes of food. Individuals and families who receive food assistance are especially needy during the cold months of winter. Thankfully the doors were opened in time to provide this necessary assistance. Food distribution is an act of kindness that makes a positive difference. Vandalism is an act of meanness that is impossible to accept or defend. Those responsible for this deplorable behavior should ask themselves, “Am I not better than this?”

VFW 7303 thanks supporters

To the Editor:

Gladwin County VFW 7303 Post and Aux. would like to thank all who supported our steak dinner and our BBQ ribs dinner. They were both a great success. Thank you to our working teams who make it all happen. Sacrificing for our veterans is a great privilege.

Spring is upon us and the days are getting longer so that means all of us have an opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life each day. No one is an island unto himself. We all need others in our lives to help lift up our hands and head when we can’t do it ourselves. So be the one who cares and do something for others. You will reap what you sow.

It may be your turn for help someday. We all have veterans in our lives. Send a card, make a phone call or make a visit to brighten their day. Maybe it’s your neighbor. It is said to love your neighbor as yourself. How are you doing with that today? We only have today so make it a great one for someone else.

You will be surprised how it will make a difference for your life. Stay informed, stay in touch, be kind and caring to all who you are in contact with. I have read that sometimes we are entertaining angels unaware. Whether you know someone or not, go the extra mile. Someone is always watching. Don’t forget to look for our events coming up for this month. Hope your days will be full of joy and peace. God bless you all. God bless our troops and God bless America again.

Respectfully,

Elsie Henry
