Big thank you

To the Editor:

A big thank you to Dick, Billy and Larry for replacing the cross boards for the neighborhood mailboxes. The old ones were rotted and falling apart. It’s great when neighbors work together.

Thanks guys.

United Way of Clare and Gladwin Counties thankful for donation

To the Editor:

Many thanks go out to the folks at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Gladwin, who donated school supplies and backpacks to United Way’s Gladwin office this week. These school supplies are very much appreciated and will be used to benefit students throughout Gladwin County at upcoming events this year.

Thank you, as well, to Jarrett Randle for making sure they were delivered to our office.

Again, your generosity is overwhelming. This donation will greatly support the education of young people right here at home.

Thank you for Living United!

Sincerely,

Stephanie Buffman, Gladwin County, Coordinator

In addition, we wish to thank Kitty Smith, Ray Stover, Gregory H. Rogers, Honorable Gary Allen and Mrs. Pat Allen, and Joan David.

Without your help, we could not hold this annual fun day event! We will continue our long-standing tradition of using all of the proceeds ($5,957.95) from the fundraiser to benefit patient care, comfort, and services at MidMichigan Medical Center–Gladwin.

Sincerely,

Donna Alward, Chair of

Chamber thank you

To the Editor,

The Gladwin County Chamber of Commerce would like to thank everyone that came out to enjoy the Taj Ma-Hog Blues & Rib Fest. The event had 700 attendees that came to Gladwin County from all over Michigan and locally. The music permeated the entire downtown area and a little beyond that evening. We apologize if this interrupted your sleep that evening. These top entertainers included Young Artist Award Winner Erin Coburn from Kentucky with her unique soulful sound applied to new and old music. Frank Bang and the Cook County Kings from Chicago brought the special sound of his “Sawzall” guitar and other instruments that entertained. Jake Kershaw, from Albion Michigan, played his custom guitar that screamed throughout the fairgrounds. The long day closed with Larry McCray an international blues star from the Bay City Area.

The Professional Rib Peoples’ Choice award went to Gladwin’s Pale Blue Smoking Co., owners Becky and Brandon Hodgins. The other Ribbers there were, Lil Sis BBQ from Gladwin, Marl’s BBQ from Sanford and Fat Matt’s BBQ. All of the ribs were delicious, and no one left hungry. Dan Vannest from Merrily Hearted Cider MIll had his Cider Slushies which were a hit in the hot weather.

A big thank you to Graff’s of Gladwin for sponsoring the Car Show for the 2nd year. There were about 32 antique cars and trucks entered with trophies going to Best Truck, Best Car, and Best Bike.

The MFCU sponsored Greased Pig Contest was a hit again this year with four age groups trying to catch the greased pigs. The laughs abounded from the stands and the cheers when the pigs were finally wrangled. All of the winners received a trophy and an “I’m a Pig Hugger!” T-shirt for their success. Thank you Elias Hillier for providing the pigs for this event, Matt Shell for helping. Our new event this year was the Gladwin Tank Sponsored Hog Calling Contest, all of the contestants gave it their all with the crowd cheering to select the winner. Makayla Rose, Maureen Barney-McGuire and Missy placed in the top three spots, each won a trophy and a SOO-EE! T-shirt. The Gladwin County Fairgrounds, Fred Shaver and his team for their help.

We want to thank the merchants that came to sell their products to our attendees. It was so hot that day and their time was very appreciated. Next year we will have them at the entrance gate as attendees arrive and leave. Thank you to the Amateur Ribbing Contest Judges and our eight contestants, and congratulations to Eric Dion, Gladwin Winner 3rd place!

Thank you to our sponsors, Stanford Gas of Gladwin and Marv for grilling to feed the bands and volunteers. Jiffy Quick, Brian for being a huge supporter and a ticket seller, Chemical Bank for selling tickets for the event. Riverwalk Place and Rivertown Inn for providing rooms for the out of town entertainers. Mid Michigan College for the use of their barrel train, Thank you to our driver for the day Greg Govitz. CrimeStoppers for sponsoring the Inflatables provided by BounceTime of Gladwin. Bob Wilson of Smokin’ Bob-B-Que who co-hosted with the Chamber this event.

Smokin’ Bob-B-Que, to the disappointment of many did not cook at this event, he wanted this to be about giving back to the community that has given to him, thank you Bob. For all of our volunteers that day and preparation for the event, Karen Breault, Katie Breault, Erin Breault, Karre Ballard, Linda and Don Hoffman, Lynn Bloomfield, Jessica Aman, Becky Tomac, Jim and Rochelle Jacobs, Jazmyne Jacobs, Meghan Keen, Karen Blatt, Selena and Tory Ford, Angela Bigham, Emma Wilson, Tiffany Shouse.
