estey

Here is another photo from Estey in Bentley Township in the southeast corner of Gladwin County. Note that the store depicted last week may be the one that says “Post Office” in this 1905 photo. It was known as the “Company Store” long after the Estey company was gone. Herman and Carrie Chubb were married Dec. 29, 1906, and had two children, Raymond and Iris. They purchased the store in 1907. Herman and Raymond were both active in the community and held many public offices in the Township. Raymond married Pearl McPherson and they had three children, Karen (Rifenbark), Kendon, and Beverly (Bray). They had eight grandchildren. Pearl taught school for many years at Tin, Estey and Seventh Day Adventist, and she retired from Pinconning Area schools. (Thanks to Marilyn Friedle for the photo and the information.)
