Sandra Coveart

On March 17, Sandra Coveart, age 75, a kind, caring, compassionate, gentle soul who was a great friend, a pet lover, and who enjoyed people, nature photography, 300-piece jigsaw puzzles and word games, as well as collecting teddy bears, left this dimension, surrounded by family and friends, and transitioned to the fullness of the spiritual life.

Born in Midland, Michigan on February 15, 1949, to Patricia (Lucas) and Garry Coveart, Sandy was raised in Sanford, Michigan. She attended area schools and graduated from Meridian High School in 1967.

She then attended Central Michigan University, where she was awarded both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Education. She spent 33 years teaching third grade in the Gladwin Community Schools. Sandy was a gifted teacher and is fondly remembered by many adult former students. In her retirement, she became an active member and officer in the local chapter of the Alpha Delta Kappa International Honorary Sorority for Women Educators, where she made some great friends.

Sandy loved participating in musical endeavors, playing the lap dulcimer, banjo, and various percussion instruments while also providing excellent vocal harmonies in her 20-year membership in the folk group called “The Last Chants,” singing for churches and other organizations around Michigan. We had a pretty great time! A larger group of friends and fellow musicians, an offshoot called “The Aggregation,” performed in some public venues – truly fun.

She enjoyed playing cards, cribbage, and dominoes; working in her gardens; and attending theatrical performances with friends locally, as well as in Lansing, Detroit and New York. An avid traveler by car, plane, and bus, she visited at least 38 states and six Canadian provinces as well as taking trips to Europe and to England. She also enjoyed a hot air balloon ride in Wyoming!

Her family all will miss this bright, shining, sincere, and caring relative, friend, and colleague. Her loss leaves big holes in many hearts. Sandy was predeceased by her parents and grandparents. She is survived by her brothers, Terry (Laura) Coveart, and Kevin (Debbie) Coveart; as well as long-time friend and housemate, Chris Laitner. She also leaves her niece, Jessica (Mark) Jungerheld, and her nephews Darin (Karen) Coveart, Kyle (Stephanie) Coveart, and Andrew (fiancé Danielle) Coveart, and great nephews and nieces, Leah, Ethan, Adalyn, Ella, and Henry. Sandy is also deeply missed by her kitty-companion, Bailey.

The family would like to thank MyMichigan Home Care/Hospice and especially Nurse Lynn C. for the excellent and comforting care that was provided. It was very helpful.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Wilson Miller Funeral Home located at 4210 N. Saginaw Road, Midland, MI 48640 (https:// www.wilson-miller.com) at 11 a.m., with visitation beginning at 9 a.m. until the time of service. A luncheon will follow.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Sandy’s name to the National Park Service, Wounded Warriors or St.

Jude’s Research Hospital would be welcomed.
