Robert Olin Hughes, Jr., age 73, of Beaverton, passed away unexpectedly on July 29, 2024. He was born on November 17, 1950, the son of Robert Sr. and Edith “Deanie” (Thomas) Hughes, in Gladwin. He was a former trucker, which he enjoyed. He later moved on to open a tree removal service of his own, “Trees Extracted.”
Robert was a proud Vietnam veteran and was a dedicated member of the VFW, which held great significance for him. He was also well-known for his love of animals. He was a good friend and Uncle. He was always there when a loved one called. To cut down a tree, help skin a deer or to pull you out if you got stuck somewhere. Everyone knew he was always willing to lend a helping hand.
He is survived by his sister, Randa Hughes; aunts: Margaret Hughes, of Traverse City and Nora “Jean” Hughes of Beaverton; nephews: Rusty (Lorena) Bodnar, TJ Jimenez, Bobby (Rachel) Jimenez, and Daryn (Rachel) Studebaker; nieces: Joleen Hansen, Erica “Jeanie” Hansen, and Jacqueline Hansen; a beloved great-niece, Kirstyn (Trevor) Trudell; along with many other great-nieces and nephews; his close cousin, Karl McKimmy; and many extended family members.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Sr. and Deanie; sister, Janet Hansen Studebaker; and nephew Robert W. Bodnar.
Funeral services took place on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at 12 p.m. at HallKokotovich Funeral Home in Gladwin. Visitation was held on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
