Paul James Schmidt

Paul James Schmidt, age 81 of Beaverton, passed away Friday, October 4, 2024 at the MyMichigan Medical Center in Midland.

Paul was born the son of the late Francis and Adella (Demijohn) Schmidt on October 31, 1942 in Saginaw. Paul served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was united in marriage to Susan Kinney on May 11, 1991 in Saginaw.

Paul had worked for the U.S.P.S. in Saginaw and Flint before moving to Beaverton in 1991 to be a Postal Clerk at the Gladwin Post Office.

He enjoyed fishing, puzzles and solving logic problems.

Paul was a faithful member of the St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Our Lady of Hope Parish.

Paul is survived by his wife, Sue; stepsons and stepdaughters: E. Daniel Sawyer and Michael Breck (Rebecca) Sawyer both of Mesa, AZ; Roy Gene (Johanna) Sawyer of Tempe, AZ; Travis Lee Sawyer of Beaverton, Matthew John Sawyer of Mesa, AZ; Julie Susann (Bob) Wilson of Gladwin, Jeremy John (Andrea) Sawyer and Angela Marie Sawyer – both of Beaverton, Aaron Josua (Meghan) Sawyer of Yulee, FL; his son, Benjamin Joseph Paul (Shawn) Schmidt of Clare; his sisters: Dolores Kaulbach of Texas and Philamena (Cris) Cowan of Rocky Mount, VA; 21 grandchildren, nine greatgrandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Paul was predeceased by his daughter, Valerie Lynn Sawyer; brothers: Vince, Jerry and Phillip Schmidt, as well as sisters: Rita Schmidt, Julie Gutowski and Karen Clarke.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Our Lady of Hope Parish. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. with Monsignor Francis Koper officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Cecilia Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions at suggested to St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Our Lady of Hope Parish. Arrangements were handled by the Clare Chapel of Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home.
